Choice domestic water softener
The presence of limescale in the water, in addition to being visually evident, can lead to more or less serious problems in the long term for home users (appliances, boilers, taps).
The presence of limescale in the water, in addition to being visually evident, can lead to more or less serious problems in the long term for home users (appliances, boilers, taps).
The most effective remedy is to install a water softener upstream of your water system which, by retaining limescale by means of cationic resins, allows softened water to be dispensed throughout the house. The softener is generally equipped with a management control unit.
This control unit is responsible for activating the regeneration process upon reaching the cubic meters or set days in which the resins are "regenerated" thanks to a particular washing carried out with brine. This compound of NaCl, sodium chloride, washes the resins by discharging the limestone retained during the normal operation of the softener and making them, again, ready to retain the incoming limestone.
Maintenance of the softener requires little manpower if an appropriate salt is used. In fact, a good quality salt does not release waste in the brine water and helps the resins work well over time without particular problems or loss of effectiveness.
For a water softener for home use, just check the amount of softened water between one regeneration and the next. Another data to take into consideration is the incoming hardness, often expressed in French degrees (° f) and which indicates how much hardness our softener will have to retain.
Among the most common choices for the home, we remember the cabinet domestic water softener. These softeners, in fact, while maintaining high performance and low consumption, can also be installed in domestic environments thanks to the reduced spaces and the presence of a brine tank inside the system.
Another possible choice is given by double-body softeners or equipped with a cylinder for resins and a separate brine tank communicating thanks to special hydraulic connections. Since they involve a larger footprint, they are suitable for those who have enough space, such as a box or a specially created technical room. This type of system is generally used in situations where a large amount of water per day is required (eg: upstream of condominium systems).
Recalling that limescale involves, among the many problems, encrustations in our taps (cause of lower water supply, for example from the shower head), malfunctions of our appliances (washing machines, dishwashers, etc.) as well as potential damage to the boilers.
With the water softener these problems are eliminated and better water is obtained both for our pipes and for food use. A real salvation to use tap water without having to worry about limescale anymore.
Choice of a softener
The choice of softener, as we said, depends on two important values: the hardness of the incoming water expressed in French degrees (°f) and the amount of water consumed per day (assuming a consumption of 150 liters of water per day for person).
Once these values have been identified, the choice of softener is very simple and is based on a mathematical calculation taking into account the cyclic capacity expressed in mc / ° f and the hardness to be retained. Once this calculation is done, you can proceed with the purchase of the water softener that best suits your needs. The advice, in the case of well water, is to carry out detailed analyzes to understand the quality of the incoming water.
In the case of aqueduct water, however, the managers carry out constant analyzes which are often published on institutional sites.
However, it is very important to always have a reference for the quality of the water in order to accurately choose the water softener that best suits your needs.
